This turned out better inked than it was in pencil, which usually with many pieces it is the other way around, it looks great in pencil and not as good inked.
Ok when I drew this singer I thought it looked like HER but now that I am looking at it scanned she looks like a guy, I guess I made her face to narrow. Anyway I figure this blog is to get us to draw more even if that means posting a mess up. In any case it's funny looking to me now, actually kind of scary. Let me know who you think it is.
Okay guys, the last post was October 19th. Almost 2 months ago! SURELY, we can do better than that yeah? ;)
So, here's something I whipped up tonight. It took longer than the 23 mins, but I was having too much fun. This tablet is AWESOME. Plus, I wanted peoples critiques. As Adam knows, I am trying to get my caricaturing up to snuff. So, I am putting this here, and now I ask you,
"Who dat?"
(If you guess it correctly, without any hints, it means I'm getting better, haha)
Okay, this took a tad longer than the 23 mins. But I was having too much fun drawing it. I spent a lot more time on the head obviously. Maybe thinking about existing superheroes limited my creativity. But, this is what came out. I drew his head normally in comic form, then had the idea to make him look like Syndrome from The Incredibles, so I started making his hair up in a flame pattern, but drew a little Wolverine point instead, so I finished it that way instead. Hope you like it!
I was inspired by one of Matts photos from Comic con on his blog mattmattson.blogspot.com Hey Jake and Kevin, I challenge you do the same, use any picture Matt has posted about Comic Con on the above link and turn Matt into a superhero or villain. You can use the same idea of using fire in his hand or do something else, it is up to you. And Matt if you read this it would be fun to see how you turn yourself into a superhero or villain even. I sort of reconize David Duchovny in this however I really want to work on the presentation of my characters, there are a few things that really bug me like the jaw line being to thick among other things, whoops. Oh well that is what I got done in 23 minutes today.
Shia LaBeouf as Mutt Williams from Indy 4. I didn't think too much of the flick, it had it's moments, but I am going to be making a larger caricature piece depicting some things I had issues with. So, that'll be coming soon...
I am not 100% in love with this piece. I like his eyes most. Something's just not right with it. Maybe his ears are throwing me off. Any advice?
From The Day After Tomorrow. Played by Jake Gyllenhaal.
Man, I struggled on this one. This is attempt #4 of the day on Jake, I just couldn't get it down. Magnum P.I. took one shot. Ah well, such are the toils of us artists.
Thomas Magnum, played by Tom Selleck. One of my favorite shows growing up.
Woah, it's been a while since I posted any art. I've been trying to hone my caricature skills lately. I think I still have a long way to go, as far as working out kinks, but I'm pleased with this piece. It's much better than some other recent attempts I have done.
So I found this really cool artist girl on this dating site and was going to draw her a picture as part of my letter to her introducing myself but I decided against it. Anyway, I can post it here.
Jake and I are trying this new approach to drawing every day to help develop new styles for doing illustrations. We are making lists of areas we want to improve in, styles we want to experiment with and mediums and anything else we want to experiment with. Here are my lists for what I plan on sketching in the next little while. If anyone else wants to join in on this little experiment feel free.
Subjects 1)muscles 2)poses and gestures 3)womens faces and hair 4)animals 5)monsters
Colors 1)Color Combinations 2)The color wheel Trying out all the different types of color wheels, just look at site you will see what I mean. By the way Jake, you might want to check out the whole site some time, it has a lot of great stuff on it.
Larken Likes Licking Lichen The black and white and a little of the color was done in 23 minutes. After the 23 minutes I figured I would just go ahead and finish the coloring.
I'm not exactly sure what the arms mean or the infinity symbol but I have a couple ideas what it could mean. Anyway I colored it after the 23 minutes and here is that one.
The word is "freezing" and as I thought of this I remembered a promise I made to my friend John 10 years ago to draw him a picture of Chilly Willy. Why I suddenly remembered I don't know and why he wanted Chilly Willy I don't know but anyways after ten years I finally got around to it, crazy huh?
I only did the two larger characters in 23 minutes, the other two were on top of that. I have been wanting to draw a character from this short film I helped make and so tonight I drew one and just couldn't stop. Here is the short film that I help make for the 24 hour film festival.
