character for "Christmas every day"
Painted Jessica
So this is a picture of a friend of mine. I used photoshop to paint over her. I used the eyedropper to sample the colors, and then toggled back and forth between that and the brush tool. Occasionally I used the rub tool, but not much. The finished product looks a little like the water color filter that takes two seconds in photoshop, but this seems more rewarding. I've seen comic book guys use this same technique so I thought I would try it out. I got to admit...I'm pleased, and I think it has kind of another world-ly feel even though it's based on something from this world.
I must admit, I finished the whole face in 23 minutes, but the background took me longer.
The picture looks pretty standard when viewed this small, but you can

An American Danewolf in Provo
My friend Dane liked the first drawing I did of him as a vampire and so I did a second one of him as a werewolf. The non-colored drawing is not my 23 minute drawing, I have a copy of it but since it is in red pencil and is kind of hard to see I put the inked drawing instead. Plus I kind of like the black and white version.

Arrrrg.
I was doing these other drawings that didn't quite turn out the way I wanted so I figured since I was stuck in this frustrated mood from work deliverying pizza I might as well put that energy into my drawings. The focus of these sketches is with a diliberate lack of care of if it looks like how I normally would draw it and more care into speed and letting my emotions out on the on paper.

Orchid and Mr. Stone
I got the idea for this while I was watching a film by Oliver Stone...
Actually I'm lying I drew this and named it, and THEN realized I was watching a film by Oliver Stone...but the other one makes a better stor....no actually this version is better.
So this is really simple, and is basically a quick sketch of what I hope to make an actual drawing of one day, but I want to keep things simple because I only have 23 minutes. In all honesty I don't remember how to draw and I want to get it back, and I think sketching fast and dirty and simple works best for me right now. I like the little orchid but I'm actually most proud of the boulder to the right which took me all of 5 seconds. Isn't that sad? Oh don't forget Mr. Stone's stone buttocks.

Freaks of the Fair
I like how this turned out however trying to find reference for ideas and redoing the type and coloring made working on this take the longest of any 23 minute project to date. Hopefully I can get back to simple sketches and not loose focus of what this is about. Even though it did take longer than I expected I am glad I spent the time doing it because that is what this is about right, trying new things and experimenting.

Regina
I decided that I wanted to try and draw someone to try better learn how to ink and futher develop my style. I choose one of my new favorite singers Regina Spektor. The first one is what I got done in the 23 minutes. I didn't have a black marker big enough to color in the center so I did it in photoshop and figured since I was there I would add a little more shading.

Creating a tulpa
I was thinking about the idea of a tulpa, (a creature that is created out of thought and is pronounced like "topa") and how cool it would be to do that. I started to think of a creature and did so for about 3 minutes before I got distracted and stopped. The creature that Ethan is thinking about pretty much is the creature I was focusing on to create, minus the jacket.
I'm a scary monster!

A few sketches of The God man Jesus Christ
I met this guy Brandon at Comic con who does this comic strip at Mousewax.com and he has Jesus as a roommate for his main character. Anyways I thought that was cool and so I drew Jesus for my 23 minutes today. It also happens to be Sunday and so I thought that was a nice touch as well. I added the color version so I could get some responce as to if the color adds to the sketch or if the sketch goes better alone with out color.

Ethan and a hoverboard
I started this not knowing I was be going to do a skateboarding picture and as I drew it I kept drawing and redrawing the feet and board trying to make it look like he is on a half pipe but ended up changing it at the last minute to look like he was on flat ground and now he looks like he is falling backwards, AH!. Anyway reference here would have helped for sure. It's a bit embarrasing posting this so unfinished but hey 23 minutes is 23 minutes.

Ethan
This is my main character from my comic strip I have been developing for a while, Ethan Zap. Ethan Zap also happens to be the name of the comic strip as well. I'm also experimenting with an inking style, trying to get something that I like. I think I will finish this up and post it on my Ethan Zap blog

What is 23 MIN MAX?
If you're seeing this blog, it's because you were told about it. That is trust. Just so you know, the purpose is to have a place to post sketches done in 23 minutes maximum. No more. Pencils down, scan it in, feel some sense of acomplishment. enjoy our work.
